Assura Plc hired Ed Smith to its board as a nonexecutive director with immediate effect.

Smith served a three-year term as chairman of NHS Improvement and currently holds the position of pro-chancellor and chairman of council at the University of Birmingham.

He is also lead nonexecutive director for the U.K.'s Department for Transport until year-end.
