Chinese banks maintain hold on Asia-Pacific market cap rankings in Q2

A ranking of the 20 largest Asia-Pacific banks by marketcapitalization as of June 30 shows Chinese banks continue to lead, holding onto the top four spots in the rankings. Industrial & Commercial Bank of China Ltd. remainedthe largest bank in the region, with a market cap of US$228.05 billion,increasing 0.05% from the end of March.

Two Australian lenders — Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Westpac Banking Corp. — held on tight to their positionsat fifth and sixth, respectively.

The SNL Japan Bank Index was the worst performing in theregion over the first half, down 33.76%, with the wider Asia index falling byjust 1.72%. The four largest Japanese banks all saw their market values declineby double digits over the March quarter.
