XL Group provides preliminary catastrophe loss estimates

XL Group Ltd has provided preliminary estimates of natural catastrophe net losses of about $250 million for the fourth quarter through Dec. 1.

These losses consist of the impact of the October wildfires in Northern California of about $200 million, primarily from the company's reinsurance segment, and other smaller events through Dec. 1. The estimates are pretax and net of reinsurance, reinstatement and adjustment premiums and redeemable noncontrolling interest.

XL Group also reconfirmed its overall net losses related to third-quarter catastrophes.
