Supreme Court won't hear Liberty Mutual petition to review NY workers' comp law

The U.S. Supreme Court said it would not hear a request by Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. and several subsidiaries to review a 2017 ruling in connection with New York's move to close a workers' compensation fund, Reuters reported.

A New York Court of Appeals ruling in 2017 said that New York's decision to shut the fund in 2013 did not interfere with the companies' contracts to provide workers' compensation insurance to employers. Liberty Mutual and other petitioners claimed that the state violated their constitutional rights and exposed them to over $1 billion in liability when it closed the fund.
