Sempra to record impairment charge on revised valuation of for-sale Mexican gas plant

SempraEnergy management expects to record in the third quarter a noncash,after-tax impairment charge related to the valuation of a natural gas powerplant in Baja California, Mexico.

Market information indicated that the fair value of the625-MW Termoeléctrica de Mexicali, which the company's Mexican unit is selling, may be less than its carrying value.

Sempra concluded that the carrying value of the plant shouldbe reduced, following an analysis of such information.

The impairment charge will range from $50 million to $90million, or $40 million to $73 million after noncontrolling interests, Semprasaid.
