Advisor Group, a network of independent financial advisory firms, appointed Steve Chipman as senior vice president of strategic acquisitions. Advisor Group is comprised of SagePoint Financial Inc., FSC Securities Corp., Woodbury Financial Services Inc. and Royal Alliance Associates Inc. Chipman leads the strategic planning process for all broker/dealer acquisitions with Advisor Group's four firm presidents.

BTIG LLC hired Michael Carley Jr. as director of fixed income credit. Carley joined BTIG from Jefferies LLC, where he was a member of the distressed-debt trading group.

Piper Jaffray Cos. appointed David Olson vice chairman of the financial institutions group. Olson previously led River Branch Holdings LLC as chairman and CEO before Piper Jaffray acquired it in September 2015.

Canaccord Genuity Group Inc.'s global capital markets division Canaccord Genuity added Duncan Dashiff to its U.S. investment banking group as managing director and head of healthcare services, which includes the healthcare IT practice in the U.S. Dashiff most recently served as a managing director with MedCare Investment Funds, a company focused on private equity investing in the healthcare industry.

Alan Cohen will step down as Goldman Sachs Group Inc.'s head of global compliance, Reuters reported. Sarah Smith, controller and chief accounting officer, will succeed Cohen. Deputy Controller Brian Lee will take over the role of Smith.

Cowen Group Inc.'s global investment management business Ramius LLC said its CEO Michael Singer is leaving the company to pursue new career opportunities. Cowen Vice Chairman Fred Fraenkel was also named interim head of asset management. Prior to joining Cowen, Fraenkel served as president of Fairholme Capital Management.

Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft appointed David Minnick the state's commissioner of securities, the St. Louis Business Journal reported. In December 2016, Minnick resigned from Stifel Nicolaus & Co. Inc., where he was senior vice president and general counsel, according to the report.

Morgan Stanley laid off more than 20 managing directors in its investment banking group across the globe and slashed bonuses by around 15% due to lower revenues from Wall Street deals and capital raises, Reuters reported.

Instinet LLC hired Mike Wood as a senior equity research analyst covering the building products sector. Wood joined Instinet from Macquarie Capital, where he was a building products analyst. In addition, the company hired David Gingeleskie and Eric Goldstein as senior equity research salespeople. Gingeleskie joined the Instinet equity research sales team from Deutsche Bank AG, while Goldstein worked with Jefferies prior to his new role.
