German savings banks council names new chairman

Walter Strohmaier, CEO of Southern German savings bank Sparkasse Niederbayern-Mitte, has been named chairman of the federal council of German savings banks.

His appointment was approved by the chairmen of the regional associations of savings banks in the German states Jan. 19.

Strohmaier succeeded Helmut Schleweis, who was appointed president of the German federal savings banks association, or DSGV, on Dec. 20, 2017, and took over his new position on Jan. 1.
