GE clinches $1B deal with Ukraine railroad

General Electric Co. secured its largest deal in Ukraine as its transportation unit GE Transportation clinched a $1 billion deal to supply 30 freight locomotives to Ukrainian Railways.

The deal also includes additional locomotive kits over 10 years, rehabilitation of locomotives in the railway's legacy fleet and long-term maintenance services.

The company said it plans to start production in the U.S. in early 2018, with first deliveries expected this fall.
