Malaysian government names new governor for Bank Negara Malaysia

The Malaysian government named Muhammad Ibrahim as newgovernor of Bank NegaraMalaysia, succeeding Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

Ibrahim will serve as head of Malaysia's central bank for aperiod of five years, beginning May 1. He has been deputy governor at the banksince 2010, the central bank said April 27.

Ibrahim's appointment shot down an earlier that Irwan SerigarAbdullah, board member of the controversial 1Malaysia Development Bhd., willbecome the new governor of the central bank.
