Consumers Energy agrees to buy 100 MW from planned Mich. solar project

Consumers Energy Co. agreed to purchase 100 MW from Ranger Power's planned River Fork solar project in Calhoun County, Mich., following a competitive bidding process.

The 20-year power purchase agreement will require final approval from the state Public Service Commission, according to a Sept. 5 news release.

Based on S&P Global Market Intelligence data, River Fork has a planned capacity of 149 MW and is expected to be completed in December 2020.

In June, Consumers Energy obtained approval from Michigan regulators for its clean energy plan that aims to eliminate coal as a fuel source by 2040 and add 5,000 MW of solar to its system by 2030.
