Digital Currency Group announces new investors; adds directors, senior advisers

Digital CurrencyGroup announced that it has added investors, board members and adviserssince it launched in October2015.

The new investors include Western Union Co.; HCM International Co.; and a number offamily offices, investment managers and funds including Gibraltar Ventures, OMERSVentures, Horizon Kinetics LLC,Kingsbridge Wealth Management Inc.and Wood Investment Partners.

Glenn Hutchins, chairman of North Island and a co-founder ofSilver Lake, has joined the board. Adviser Lawrence Lenihan will join Hutchins andDigital Currency Group Founder and CEO Barry Silbert on the board. Lawrence is theco-founder and co-CEO of Resonance, a venture operating company focused on the fashionindustry.

Also joining the company as senior advisers are Lawrence Summersand Gavin Andresen. Summers served as the secretary of the Treasury for PresidentBill Clinton and the director of the National Economic Council for President BarackObama. He is currently the Charles W. Eliot University Professor and President Emeritusat Harvard University. Andresen is one of the developers of the bitcoin protocoland was the lead developer for several years after the anonymous creator of bitcoin,Satoshi Nakamoto, stepped back. He is currently with the MIT Digital Currency Initiative.
