US real estate ETFs log approximately $223M of net outflows in September

U.S. real estate exchange-traded funds saw $222.6 million of net outflows in September, bringing assets under management for real estate ETFs to approximately $52.44 billion as of Sept. 29.

BlackRock Inc.'s iShares U.S. Real Estate ETF saw the largest net outflow for the month of September, at $125.5 million, a reversal from logging August's largest net inflows.

Conversely, Charles Schwab Corp.'s Schwab U.S. REIT ETF drew the largest net inflow during September, at approximately $112.1 million.

Invesco PowerShares Capital Management LLC's PowerShares KBW Premium Yield Equity REIT Portfolio recorded the highest one-month total return at 3.5% as of Oct. 2, outperforming the S&P 500 index and SNL U.S. REIT Equity index by 1.2 and 4.5 percentage points, respectively.

In terms of yearly total returns, the PowerShares KBW Premium Yield Equity REIT Portfolio topped the list with a 12.8% total return, followed by the IQ U.S. Real Estate Small Cap ETF with a total return of 5.1%.
