Argentina's National Communications Agency on Dec. 21 approved a merger between Telecom Argentina and Cablevisión Argentina that was announced earlier in the year.
Under the resolution, Cablevisión's broadcasting services and radio spectrum frequencies for mobile services will be transferred to Telecom Argentina.
The agency noted it placed certain restrictions on the merger aimed at guaranteeing competition and quality of service, as well as to protect small companies. In locations where Telecom Argentina holds a significant market position, it must offer the same commercial conditions as those found in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires. It must also return the radio spectrum exceeding the maximum allowable limit of 140 MHz and offer its infrastructure for use by other companies to offer their services.
The merger is pending regulatory approval from Argentina's CNDC antitrust authority, Reuters said in a separate report.
