Anglo American Platinum reports fatality at Waterval smelter

An Anglo American Platinum Ltd. employee was fatally injured in an incident related to a forklift at the company's Waterval smelter in South Africa.

The company said Dec. 22 that the accident had occurred one day earlier and it is investigating the cause and any underlying issues.

In early November, an employee at Anglo American Platinum's Union mine died in a fall-of-ground incident less than a month after an employee died in a suspected winch-related incident at the Dishaba mine.

A worker died at the Dishaba mine in a loader-related incident in June, while a fall-of-ground incident at the Tumela mine killed another employee in April.

The Dishaba and Tumela mines form part of Anglo American Platinum's Amandelbult operation in South Africa.
