IAMGOLD Corp. partly stopped operations at its Rosebel gold mine in Suriname while removing equipment and personnel from its southern pits due to a blockade by illegal miners, Reuters reported Oct. 3 citing local news site Starnieuws.
The company recently resumed operations in the southern pits of the Mayo and Royal Hill deposits at the mine, and said full ramp-up was expected within about 30 days.
IAMGOLD had to suspend operations in August after a clash between police and illegal miners that left one miner dead, after which operations partially resumed later the same month.
The company is yet to comment on the situation.
