BBC Worldwide, China's Tencent to co-produce natural history series

BBC Worldwide Ltd. has struck an agreement with Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings Ltd. to co-produce the British Broadcasting Corp.'s natural history series "Blue Planet II."

The deal, inked at MIPCOM 2017, will see the series aired simultaneously in the U.K. and China via the v.qq.com website and video app. Tencent will also make the series available on digital on-demand platforms across Greater China.

"Blue Planet II" is a new seven-part series that takes a closer look at the world's oceans and aquatic animals. It is from BBC Studios' natural history unit, which also produced "The Blue Planet" in 2001.

BBC Worldwide and Tencent previously co-produced documentary series "Planet Earth II" in 2016.
