LGC Ltd. acquired SeraCare Life Sciences Inc., a manufacturer of diagnostic products and biological materials for clinical laboratories and researchers worldwide.

SeraCare provides control materials for infectious disease testing along with clinical next-generation sequencing products.

Teddington, U.K.-based LGC will strengthen its position in the clinical quality control tools market through this acquisition. SeraCare employs 170 people and will continue to operate from its two sites in Milford, Mass., and Gaithersburg, Md., under LGC.
