Apple faces investigation in Russia following Kaspersky complaint

Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service launched an investigation into Apple Inc. over potential abuse of its dominant market position by denying a third-party application into its operating system, Reuters reported.

The probe comes after the Russian regulator's received of a complaint from Kaspersky Lab ZAO, saying that Apple's operating system declined the new version of Kaspersky Lab's Safe Kids application. The security company claimed that its app had similar functions to Apple's own parental control app, Screen Time.

In April, Apple said it pulled several parental control apps from the App Store after discovering that they were using a "highly invasive technology," Mobile Device Management, in violation of its guidelines.

Kaspersky, however, contended that Apple's App Store guidelines allowed a limited use of Mobile Device Management, but it remains unclear how to acquire Apple's permission.
