Titanium Sands Ltd. said Sept. 18 that a resource estimate for a 38-square-kilometer tenure adjacent to its Mannar Island heavy mineral sands project in Sri Lanka totaled 31.92 million tonnes grading 7.45% total heavy minerals.
The Australia-listed explorer said the resource estimate delineation was part of its due diligence proceedings for the potential all-share acquisition of the property extension through the purchase of Mauritius-based Bright Angel Ltd.
Heavy mineral sand resources at the property are exposed at the surface with no overburden and extend continuously for a strike length of 8 kilometers with an average width of 2 kilometers. The resource drilling extended only to the water table at a depth ranging from 1 meter to 3 meters, with mineralization remaining open at depth.
The potential acquisition will increase mineral resources and grow the potential for a further resource extension, the company said.
A drilling program is underway on the adjoining tenure owned by Titanium Sands, targeting resource depth and lateral extension.
In February, an updated resource estimate for the Mannar Island property outlined inferred mineral resources of 53.08 million tonnes grading 6.67% heavy minerals.
