Escondida strikes early wage deal with supervisors' union

BHP Billiton Group reached an early wage deal with the supervisors' trade union at its Escondida copper-gold mine in Chile, Metal Bulletin reported Oct. 9.

The 36-month agreement with the Sindicato No 2 union allows contract talks to resume with the mineworkers' union, Sindicato No 1, according to the report. BHP operates the mine, and production resumed in August after a six-week work stoppage.
