SunPower Corp.on April 1 said it won power purchase agreements to supply 500 MW, or 1 TWh, ofsolar capacity to Mexico's ComisiónFederal de Electricidad.
The awards include about 400 MW in Yucatan and more than 100MW in Guanajuato together with their associated clean energy certificates. The PPAswere awarded under Mexico's first electricity power auction, which was held as aresult of the country's sweeping energy sector reform.
Overall, SunPower won about 20% of the total energy and 25% ofthe solar energy under the auction, as per the results announced by Mexico's NationalCenter for Energy Control. Project development and construction is subject to severalfactors, including contract execution, the company said.
In December 2015, SunPower announced a long-term PPA to supply 36 MW of solar power to Grupo Aeroportuariodel Sureste SAB de CV, which is the operator of Cancun Airport and eight other airportsin southeast Mexico.
SunPower is majority-owned by Total SA.
