DBRS Morningstar confirms Morgan Stanley's ratings

DBRS Morningstar confirmed Morgan Stanley's ratings, including its long-term issuer rating of A (high) and short-term issuer rating of R-1 (middle).

The trend for all ratings is stable.

DBRS Morningstar said its confirmation reflects the strength of Morgan Stanley's franchise supported by its institutional securities and wealth management businesses. The rating agency said the businesses' scale and market positions contribute to "resilient earnings generation" for the investment banking giant. The agency also said Morgan Stanley's "effective risk management capabilities" and "strong credit fundamentals" support the current rating level.

Morgan Stanley's ratings also consider its exposure to various capital markets activities important to its franchise's value but also that contribute a "notable level of market risk."
