José Tostes Neto, a retired tax auditor and fiscal adviser, will replace Marcos Cintra as special secretary to Brazil's federal revenue service, the country's economy ministry said Sept. 20.
Tostes Neto, who was selected by Economy Minister Paulo Guedes, has been advising the Inter-American Development Bank in fiscal and municipal governance issues. He will take office as special secretary of the federal revenue service once he is officially appointed by decree by Brazil's president, Jair Bolsonaro.
Tostes Neto, who has held public office on the national and state levels, will replace Cintra, who was dismissed Sept. 11 over a tax reform dispute. The fallout between Cintra and President Bolsonaro was attributed to Cintra's proposal to reintroduce a financial transaction tax modeled on Brazil's now-abolished CPMF tax.
