Monongahela Power Co. is upgrading a transmission substation near Thomas, W.Va., that will help connect a new wind farm to the regional electric grid.
The $2.2 million project includes a new 138-kV transformer that will accommodate output from the wind farm, located in Grant County, W. Va. Additionally, a new circuit breaker and relay devices will be installed to protect the equipment from tree-related outages or lightning strikes.
Mon Power has completed the foundation work, and the project is slated for completion by November, the FirstEnergy Corp. subsidiary said in an Oct. 18 news release.
