Banco Macro chairman denies involvement in Ciccone political scandal

Jorge Brito, the chairman of Banco Macro SA who is on leave, filed a brief in court on Nov. 27 in which he denied financing the purchase of printing company Ciccone Calcográfica, which is in the center of a political scandal in Argentina, Perfil reported.

Brito also said that he has no relationship with other defendants in the Ciccone case, including Alejandro Vandenbroele, who is being accused of fronting for Argentine Vice President Amado Boudou for the purchase of the printing firm.

After presenting the brief, Brito said that he will elaborate on his statement once the secrecy of the case is lifted and he finds out more details of the accusations against him. He also said that he is willing to collaborate with the judiciary to resolve the case.

Brito previously filed for a leave of absence from Banco Macro, noting that he would like to preserve the company from "all attacks and accusations" hurled against him after news of his alleged involvement in the Ciccone case broke out. The bank's board subsequently approved Brito's leave.
