Atlantic American posts higher operating income YOY in Q2

Atlantic American Corp. reported second-quarter operating income of $789,000, up from $225,000, in the year-ago quarter.

Net income for the period was $1.5 million, or 7 cents per common share, an increase from $241,000, or 1 cent per common share, in the prior-year quarter.

Net realized investment gains for the quarter were $1.4 million, compared with $132,000, in the prior-year period.

Life and health insurance premiums increased to $27.0 million in the second quarter from $25.4 million in the year-ago period. Property and casualty insurance premiums declined to $13.1 million for the quarter from $13.8 million in the second quarter of 2016.
