German annual harmonized inflation confirmed at 2.2% in September

Annual harmonized inflation in Germany accelerated to 2.2% in September from 1.9% in August, data from the country's Federal Statistical Office showed, confirming provisional figures.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 0.4% on an EU-harmonized basis in September.

Nonharmonized annual inflation rose to 2.3% in September from 2.0% in August, as energy prices surged 7.7% and food prices gained 2.8% year over year.

Clothing and footwear prices rose 6.8% month over month, feeding into a nonharmonized inflation of 0.4% in September on a monthly basis. Prices for recreation and culture fell by 2.6%, and slipped 0.4% for services in September compared with August.
