Avista to purchase power from Clearway Energy wind farm in Washington

Avista Corp. will purchase the electricity produced by Clearway Energy Group LLC's proposed Rattlesnake Flat wind project in Adams County, Wash., under a 20-year power contract.

Clearway Energy Group's bid won a request for proposals issued by Avista in June 2018 that sought up to 50 average MW of renewable energy projects, Avista said in a news release March 19. The power purchase agreement will take effect in 2020.

With 144 MW of nameplate wind capacity, the wind farm will be built in 20,000 acres of land near Lind, Wash., and will be connected through Avista's Lind/Washtucna transmission line.

Avista said it expects to recover the expenses of the power purchased through retail rates.

Clearway Energy Group is a Global Infrastructure Partners company. Clearway Energy Group also holds a controlling interest in Clearway Energy Inc.
