HSBC HoldingsPlc's Middle East unit appointed Georges Elhedery CEO for theMiddle East and North Africa region, effective immediately, Reuters reportedJuly 26.

Elhedery, who was previously head of global banking andmarkets for the MENA region, succeeds Mohammad Al Tuwaijri, who in May stepped downfrom his role after the Saudi Arabian government appointed him deputy ministerof economy and planning.

Elhedery's appointment is subject to regulatory approval,Reuters said, adding that he will also join the board of as deputychairman.
