ADominion Resources Inc.subsidiary has won a patent lawsuit against Alstom Grid Inc.
Dominion VoltageInc. won the case after a jury of the U.S. District Court for the EasternDistrict of Pennsylvania unanimously found that Alstom Grid infringed aDominion-owned patent (U.S. Patent No. 8,437,883) by claiming an invention thatimproves grid efficiency through smart meters and advanced meteringinfrastructure for the process of conservation voltage reduction.
The juryalso found that the patent is valid and that Alstom Grid willfully inducedinfringement by installing its distribution management system at a customerlocation, according to a Dominion release.
Moreover, theU.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected Alstom's petitions to challenge thevalidity of Dominion's patent 8,437,883 and 8,577,510.
