Italy's exports in the month of October were up 0.5% month over month after seasonal adjustments as imports gained 2.6%, the National Institute for Statistics said.
This compared with 0.7% and 4.4% monthly declines to exports and imports, respectively, in the month before.
Exports to EU countries were 2.8% higher in October, while imports from the bloc hiked 3.2%. Outside the bloc, Italy's exports shed 2.4%, while imports jumped 1.7% in the month.
In annual terms, October's exports increased by 11.3% and imports climbed 10.4%, after 5.7% and 5.5% gains, respectively, in September.
The annual gains reflected 12.8% and 11.7% increases in Italy's exports and imports within the EU, respectively. Outside the area, exports rose by 9.5% compared to an 8.4% growth to imports.
