The Walt Disney Co. has cut jobs at National Geographic as it plans to combine acquired companies with its existing operations, Variety reported, citing two sources.
About 70 to 80 employees may be affected at the magazine, which Disney owns following its acquisition of 21st Century Fox Inc.
Selected segments of National Geographic, such as its live event, travel and publishing businesses, will be moved into divisions of Disney that run similar operations.
National Geographic will maintain the publication of its flagship magazine, but will no longer publish U.S. editions of National Geographic Traveler, the report said, citing one of the sources.
