Vivendi denies de facto control over Telecom Italia

Vivendi SA said Aug. 7 that it denies having de facto control over Telecom Italia SpA, following Italian regulator Consob's call to define its jurisdiction over the the operator.

The French company cited an Italian law in claiming insufficient participation to exercise effective control over the company.

Vivendi also said its exercise of "management and coordination activities" at Telecom Italia does not signify control.

Telecom Italia earlier said Vivendi began the "direction and coordination" of the Italian operator on July 27.
