Assembly Biosciences chief scientific officer to step down

Assembly Biosciences, Inc. said Miguel Barbosa will step down as chief scientific officer and head of the microbiome program, effective Oct. 31.

The company said Barbosa's resignation is due to family medical reasons, and is unrelated to the company or his performance.

Barbosa will remain with the company as a consultant in a strategic advisory role and to assist with the leadership transition.

While the company searches for a replacement, Wayne Herber, senior vice president for biological manufacturing, and Thomas Rollins, chief development officer, will jointly lead the microbiome program.
