German harmonized inflation accelerates in December

Harmonized German consumer prices rose by 0.8% in December, according to the Federal Statistical Office's provisional estimate, compared to the final 0.3% monthly rise in November.

In annual terms, harmonized inflation was 1.6% in December, compared to the final 1.8% rise in November.

The harmonized inflation rate is expected to be 1.7% in 2017, compared with a year earlier.

German inflation is closely followed by the European Central Bank because of its influence on the ECB's monetary policy.
