Freeport LNG ships 1st commissioning cargo from Texas terminal

Freeport LNG Development LP on Sept. 3 shipped its first LNG commissioning cargo for the first liquefaction train from the Freeport LNG terminal in Texas.

Coming from Quintana Island in Freeport, Texas, the first cargo aboard the LNG Jurojin vessel contains approximately 150,000 cubic meters of LNG, according to a news release on the same day.

The facility's commercial operations are expected to begin later in September, Freeport LNG Founder, Chairman and CEO Michael Smith said in the release.

The second train at Freeport LNG is also advancing its pre-commissioning to keep its scheduled January 2020 in-service date, while the company's train 3 is approaching completion to meet its May 2020 in-service date.

After getting permission from federal regulators to start shipping commissioning cargoes, Freeport LNG began production in August, becoming the sixth major natural gas liquefaction facility in the U.S. to start up.
