China-Hong Kong stock connect to include ETFs

Chinese and Hong Kong securities regulators are considering including exchange-traded funds in the China-Hong Kong stock connect programs by the end of 2018, the Financial Times reported Dec. 20, citing media reports.

Carlson Tong, chairman of Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission, said the trading volume through the Shanghai-Hong Kong and Shenzhen-Hong Kong stock connect programs have increased consistently, adding that the next step to expand the programs is to include ETFs, Sing Tao Daily reported.

After the inclusion of ETFs, the regulators will conduct a study to incorporate index futures in the programs, Tong said.
