Bank of New York Mellon Corp. filed an automatic shelf registration statement for the potential sale of an undisclosed amount of securities.

These securities include common stock, preferred stock, debt securities, depositary shares, stock purchase contracts, stock purchase units and warrants.

The company expects to use the net proceeds from the sale of securities for general corporate purposes.
