Following a maiden ore reserve estimation at its Meckering kaolin deposit in Western Australia, Altech Chemicals Ltd. believes the ore reserve is "more than sufficient" to support its high-purity alumina processing operation in Malaysia for the first-stage mine life of 30 years.
The JORC 2012-compliant maiden ore reserve was estimated at 1.2 million tonnes at 30% alumina, at a cutoff grade of 25% alumina, the company said Oct. 11.
A mineral resource at Meckering estimated 12.7 million tonnes at 29.5% alumina, at a cutoff grade of 25% alumina.
According to the company, the mineral resources estimation at Meckering is potentially sufficient to support its proposed high-purity alumina production for over 250 years at the Johor Bahru plant.
Altech Managing Director Iggy Tan said the company will now submit a mining proposal and a mine closure plan to secure approvals for construction to start in early 2017.
