Uniontown receives FERC license to build 66.6-MW hydro plant on Ohio River

FERC on Sept. 27 granted Symbiotics LLC subsidiary a 50-year licenseto construct, operate and maintain the 66.6-MW Uniontown Hydroelectric Project.

In an April 2011 application, Uniontown estimated a construction cost ofabout $175 million and an average annual expense of $24.98 million. The plannedrun-of-river facility is expected to produce 224,000 MWh annually.

The project will occupy 55.3 acres of federal land at theU.S. Army Corps of Engineers' John T. Myers Locks and Dam on the Ohio River inUnion County, Ky., and Posey County, Ind.
