Karen Clark estimates $7B in total Bahamas losses from Hurricane Dorian

The total insured and uninsured losses from Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas will be $7 billion, catastrophe modeling company Karen Clark & Co. estimated.

The estimate includes losses to residential, commercial and industrial properties, but excludes infrastructure and auto losses. KCC said estimated losses totaled $4 billion on Abaco Island, which has a population of 20,000, and $2 billion on Grand Bahama, population 54,000.

Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane Sept. 1, packing sustained winds of 185 mph with gusts to 220 mph. At least 20 deaths have been attributed to the storm.
