Central Garden & Pet fiscal Q2 profit climbs 9.7% YOY

Central Garden & Pet Co. said its normalized net income for the fiscal second quarter ended March 28 was 47 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 43 cents per share.

EPS rose 9.0% year over year from 43 cents.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $23.0 million, a gain of 9.7% from $21.0 million in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin climbed to 4.6% from 4.2% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue totaled $497.6 million, compared with $501.6 million in the year-earlier period, and total operating expenses declined year over year to $447.6 million from $456.8 million.

Reported net income increased 10.0% from the prior-year period to $23.2 million, or 47 cents per share, from $21.1 million, or 43 cents per share.
