Hawaiian Electric energizes 1-MW battery system at Oahu plant

HawaiianElectric Co. Inc. has brought online a 1-MW atthe Campbell IndustrialPark generating station in Oahu.

The demonstration project will run for two years, unlessextended, to determine the battery's effectiveness in integrating morerenewable energy on a circuit already incorporating high level of solar,according to a Sept. 23 release.

The HawaiianElectric Industries Inc. subsidiary collaborated with the HawaiiNatural Energy Institute at the University of Hawaii to develop the project,which also received funding from the U.S. Office of Naval Research.
