Amazon unit debuts cloud data centers in UK

Amazon.com Inc.-owned Amazon Web Services Inc. on Dec. 13 opened a European AWS region in the British capital city of London.

The London region will provide two availability zones, or tech locations, as well as multiple Amazon CloudFront edge locations. With the facilities, clients will be able to use the AWS Cloud to run apps and websites, store data and deliver content to end-users with low latency.

The AWS region in the U.K. joins two other existing European regions in Ireland and Germany. The company expects to roll out five availability zones and two cloud data regions in France and China in the coming months.

AWS earlier opened cloud data regions in Canada and South Korea.
