Vodafone, Orange ink soccer deals with Mediapro in Spain

The Spanish unitsof Vodafone Group Plcand Orange signed adeal with Mediapro to secure soccer rights to La Liga and Copa del Rey matchesfor the next three seasons, Digital TV Europe reported April 11.

Vodafone will reportedly show eight soccer matches per dayvia Mediapro's beIN SPORTS La Liga channel, which can be accessed via theVodafone TV over-the-top service, as well as ONO fiber network and xDSL TV.

Vodafone also reportedly secured a distribution deal for thebeIN SPORTS channel for the next two seasons.

Orange also landed similar deals, according to the report.

El Partidazo, or the major game of the day, is not includedin the deals, as Telefónica currently holds exclusive rights. BothVodafone and Orange will reportedly try to negotiate with Telefónica for accessto El Partidazo.

Mediapro previously openedup soccer broadcasting rights to Telefónica SA's rivals, following an from Spanish competition regulatorCNMC.

Telefónica paid €2.4 billion in January for the soccer rights.
