Markel to issue $100M of senior notes

MarkelCorp. has filed a prospectus for an offering of $100 million of its5.0% senior notes due April 5, 2046.

The new notes will be issued under the indenture pursuant towhich the company issued $400 million of its senior due 2046. Upon settlement, the newand existing notes will be mutually interchangeable and will be treated as asingle series having an aggregate principal amount of $500 million.

The trade date for the notes is May 5 and the settlementdate is May 10. Interest on the notes will be payable April 5 and Oct. 5 eachyear, starting Oct. 5.

The company intends to use the net proceeds from the sale ofthe notes for general corporate purposes.

Wells Fargo Securities LLC is the sole book running manager.Bank of New York Mellon will act as trustee and paying agent for the notes.
