The U.K. Financial Conduct Authority published the finalfindings of its credit card market study and laid down measures, includingindustry-led proposals, to help consumers manage their spending better andrepay debt faster.
For consumers in problem credit card debt, theFCA called for further action so that financial firms can reach out tocustomers before they get into financial difficulties. The regulator noted thatfirms lack incentives to help customers out of persistent credit card debt.
The final report follows an released in 2015 thatfound competition to work for most customers but also pointed to concern aboutthe scale of potentially problematic debt. The FCA said it will publish furtherinformation on proposed rules and voluntary remedies later in 2016.
