Banc of California sees biggest short interest drop in late September

Banc of California Inc. had the greatest decline in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered banks and thrifts between Sept. 15 and Sept. 29.

The percentage of the company's shares held short relative to shares outstanding fell 214 basis points to 38.55% as of Sept. 29. The company also topped the list of most shorted banks and thrifts during the second half of September.

First Horizon National Corp. saw the largest rise in short interest relative to shares outstanding among SNL-covered banks and thrifts between Sept. 15 and Sept. 29. The percentage of the company's shares held short relative to shares outstanding climbed 175 basis points to 9.47% as of Sept. 29.
