REIT Replay: Inclement weather

Real estate investment trusts and the broader markets posted gains Thursday, June 1, as U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the country will pull out of the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The MSCI US REIT Index (RMZ) rose 0.49% to 1,142.88, and the SNL US REIT Equity Index added 0.59% to close at 311.93. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.65% to close at 21,144.18, while the S&P 500 closed 0.76% higher at 2,430.06.

Simon Property Group Inc. said Thursday that its operating partnership wrapped up its offering of $600 million of 2.625% senior notes due 2022, and $750 million of 3.375% senior notes due 2027.

Simon Property shares ticked up 0.38% to end the day at $154.83.

American Hotel Income Properties REIT LP said Wednesday that it struck a deal to purchase an 18-hotel U.S. portfolio for about US$407.4 million. The company also kicked off a bought-deal public offering of limited partnership units and convertible debentures in connection with the portfolio acquisition.

American Hotel Income shares sank 4.39% to close at C$10.24.

Brixmor Property Group Inc.'s operating partnership priced an offering of $500 million of 3.650% senior notes due 2024. The company said Wednesday that the offering is expected to close June 5 and net proceeds will go mainly toward repayment of outstanding debt under a $1.25 billion unsecured revolving credit facility.

Shares of Brixmor Property added 0.61%, closing at $18.15.

UMH Properties Inc. on Thursday announced the pricing of a public offering of 1.4 million common shares for net proceeds of about $22.7 million. The company expects to close the transaction by June 5.

Shares of UMH Properties went up 2.04% to close at $17.04.

Preliminary voting results from Taubman Centers Inc.'s Thursday annual shareholder meeting showed that the shareholders voted to elect all of the company's director nominees to its board.

Taubman Centers shares slipped 2.86% to close at $59.40.

Equity Commonwealth said Thursday that it intends to redeem its 6.65% senior unsecured notes due January 2018 that have an aggregate principal outstanding amount of $250.0 million.

Equity Commonwealth shares gained 0.71%, closing at $31.34.

Wheeler Real Estate Investment Trust Inc. and Equity LifeStyle Properties Inc. reaffirmed their respective earnings guidance for full year 2017.

Wheeler REIT shares surged 7.50% to $8.60 and Equity LifeStyle shares ticked up 0.05% to close at $84.44.
