Gladstone Port's coal export climbs 176% in March on stronger Chinese demand

's coalexports in Marchsharply increased by 176% from February's loads after China imported 415,000tonnes of coal, The Observer(Gladstone, Queensland) reported April 11.

However,Gladstone's exported coal to China in March posted a more than 50% decline fromthe same period of the prior year. Between January and March, Gladstone's coalshipments to China plunged 56.6% year-over-year to 1.13 million tonnes, saidthe report.

Meanwhile,India's offtake of coal exports at Gladstone port during the first three monthsrose to 3.6 million tonnes from 2.8 million tonnes in 2015. Exports in Marchalone showed a 10% improvement to 1.18 million tonnes compared to the year-agoperiod, according to the report.
